Professional Biography

Mr Ishtiaq Ahmed is a well known and credible face on the local and national community scene. Over the years, he has held a number of prominent paid and unpaid positions in the community. He started his working life with Bradford Metropolitan Council for Voluntary Services as a community development worker, where he went on to become the first and the only Asian Chief Officer, of the organization. He then progressed on to become the director of Doncaster and Bradford Racial Equality Council as well as holding a number of senior positions within the Bradford Metropolitan Council and Calderdale Borough Council.

He is a former general secretary of Bradford Council for Mosques, an organisation he has served over the last thirty years in different roles. He was the founding member and the general secretary of the Pakistani Community Centre Association that built the Pakistani Community Centre. He was also the inspiration behind the establishment of the Karmand Centre, which has gone on to become one of the largest community centres in Bradford.

Nationally, he has played an active role in the formation of Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) and the Inter Faith Network (UK). He is highly regarded in the interfaith circles, highly respected by members of other faith communities for his fair and objective take on interfaith relations. He continues to be involved with a number of charity causes both here and in Pakistan.
